Endicott (John) School is built.
1840
Named for the former Massachusetts Bay Colony governor, it is located on Cooper Street. The school met initially in the Pitts Street Chapel and old Hancock School. George Allen Jr. and Loring Lothrop are the first masters. The building is subsequently converted first to the Cooper Street Armory, then to St. Mary’s School. It is demolished in the mid-20th century.
