Emily Rooney dismisses complaints by minority documentary filmmakers over the Public Broadcasting System’s support for Ken Burns.

The host of Beat the Press suggests, “. . . it’s resentment that a white guy is getting all this time. . . I didn’t see Asian Americans [a film by Grace Lee] but there’s a possibility it wasn’t as good as some of Ken Burns’ films.” Rooney subsequently apologizes for her remarks, but WGBH cancels the 22-year-old show on August 13, 2021.
