Emancipation sculpture is dedicated.

Artist: Meta Vaux Warrick Fuller. It is located in Harriet Tubman Park at 450 Columbus Avenue. Although sculpted in 1913, the statue was not cast in bronze until selected for Harriet Tubman Square more than 80 years later. A plaque inscribed with the sculptor’s words is installed on the base of the statue is celebrated on June 22, 2014. One of two statues that are the first statues on city-owned property to honor a woman, it commemorates the Maryland-born abolitionist leader who made several visits to Boston, including one to Julia Henson who lived on nearby Holyoke Street.
