Eliot Burying Ground is established.
1630
Originally the Roxbury Burying Ground or Eustis Street Burying Ground, it is located at the corner of Eustis Street and Washington Street. Graves include those of the Govs. Thomas and Joseph Dudley, other members of the Dudley family, Rev. John Eliot, veterans of the French and Indian War, and members of the Ruggles and Willard families. It also includes the 1653 gravestone of six-month-old Samuel Danforth, the oldest gravestone in Boston. Burials cease in 1846. The cemetery is renovated by Historic Boston in 1989.
