Elephant is exhibited in Boston.

(Dec.) Imported by Capt. Jacob Crowninshield, it is exhibited in a building behind the Fire Insurance Office on State Street at the corner of Quaker Lane near today’s 29 State Street. It is reputed to be the first elephant brought to the U.S. Admission to view it is 25 cents. According to the Centinel, “the animal is five years old, and will continue to grow until he is 50 or 60; measures in length 16 ft., round his body 12 ft, round his head 8 ft., and weighs between 3400 and 4000 lbs. Eats 130 wt. a day, drinks all kinds of spiritous liquors; travels loose and will probably live between 200 and 300 years.”
