Eighteen Twelve Peace Jubilee is held.

February 13, 1815

(to 2/22) The celebration of the end of the War of 1812 includes school dismissals, the illuminating of public buildings, and, the next day, the town’s first musical festival with performances by the Boston Philo-harmonic Orchestra, the Handel and Haydn Society, and the Park Street Choir. Conducted by Gotlieb Graupner, with a chorus of 100 singers, works include patriotic songs and those by Handel and Haydn, including the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah. The concert is so popular that it is repeated for the next two years. A general illumination and Peace Ball is held on February 22, 1815.
