Eight longshoremen are killed in an explosion on the Black Falcon.

The explosion in the hold of the Norwegian cargo ship cruise ship is caused by a chemical spill. It claims the lives of father and son Anthony and Alvin Bensaia, Thomas Croall, Joseph Driscoll, Chester Kennedy, David McConnell, George McCrevan, Albert Prudente, who was working his second day on the job. Ten other longshoremen are badly injured.
