Edward Sturgis arrives in Charlestown.

(ca.) Originally from Kent, England, he listed as a landholder in Charlestown by 1635. Sturgis subsequently moves to Yarmouth. A descendant, William Sturgis, the son of a sea captain, comes to Boston in 1796 to work in the counting house of his uncle Col. Thomas Handasyd Perkins, sails to China as foremast hand aboard the Eliza, and returns to Boston five years later as captain of the Caroline.
