Eddy (Mary Baker) is born in Bow, New Hampshire.
July 16, 1821
The daughter of Mark and Abigail (Ambrose) Baker, Mary Baker Eddy attends public schools, marries Daniel Parkinson in 1853, then Asa Gilbert Eddy in 1877. After suffering a serious injury, she credits her recovery to reading from scripture, and publishes her first book on the subject in 1875.* Eddy founds the Christian Science Association in Lynn in 1876, moves to Boston, and founds the Church of Christ, Scientist in 1879.* She lives at 551 Shawmut Avenue, writes a number of books, and founds the Christian Science Monitor newspaper in 1908.* Eddy dies on December 3, 1910, and is buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
