E.C. Morris Safe Company building is built.

It is located at 1693 – 1715 Hyde Park Avenue. The complex of one-story buildings covers two acres. The company manufactures safes and bank vaults. It closes in 1897. The buildings reopen in 1898 and are thereafter used to make textile machinery.
