Dr. Joseph Murray of Harvard Medical School is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

Murray receives the award along with E. Donnall Thomas of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center for developing procedures for organ and cell transplantation in humans.
