Demonstrations is held to protest a grand jury decision in New York City.

Several thousand people gather at the annual tree-lighting ceremony on Boston Common to protest a grand jury decision not to indict a New York city police officer for the choking death of an unarmed black man. The demonstrators then march throughout downtown Boston and onto bridges and highways, briefly stopping traffic. Subsequent demonstrations in Boston include some 1,000 demonstrators gathering in front of the State House on December 13, 2014, hundreds of students waling out of several Boston public schools on December 16, 2014, and 100 demonstrators staging a “die-in” in front of the Boston Public Library at the beginning of the First Night celebration on December 31, 2014.
