Demonstration is held against poet Langston Hughes.

Hughes is picketed when he appears at the Boston Arts Festival with Jimmy Rushing, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee in a performance entitled “The Blues: Words and Music.” The day before, Hughes had been criticized in the Boston Herald for being “a communist sympathizer and a danger to the children of Boston.”
