Demonstration against violence is held.

April 23, 1976

Some 50,000 people march against school-related violence to City Hall Plaza. The largest demonstration in the city since an anti-Vietnam demonstration in 1969, its marchers include Supreme Judicial Court members and local college presidents. Only clergy, including Archbishop Humberto Medeiros, Episcopal bishop-elect John Colburn, and Rabbi Roland Gittelsohn, address the crowd at the rally at the conclusion of the march.
