Deborah Sampson appears at the Federal Street Theatre.

[3/26-MM] Also known as Deborah Sampson Gannett, she performs in the first stop of a tour of The American Heroine. Prior to her marriage, she had posed as a man and enlisted in the Massachusetts Fourth Regiment as Robert Shurtliff in Bellingham on May 23, 1782 Uxbridge, 5/20/1782-MM], served in the Revolutionary War, and was subsequently discharged when her gender was discovered after being wounded in battle. According to the theater bill, Samson will speak about her experiences as a soldier, and “equipt in complete uniform [she] will go through the manual exercises.”
