Crawford House opens.

December 31, 1865

(Dec.) The hotel is located on today’s Cambridge Street near the Government Center Subway Station (then 83 Court Street). It is substantially enlarged to 100 rooms and to include six restaurants and nightclubs in 1874. Performers would subsequently include stripper Sally Keith, known as the “Queen of the Tassels.” The hotel’s well-known theatrical bar remains in operation even after the four upper floors of the building are removed in 1950. The building is demolished to make way for the Government Center project in 1962.
