Garland (Cornelius) is born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

1870

(ca.) Cornelius Gardner studies medicine in the South and London, and arrives in Boston in 1902. After facing racial discrimination in his attempt to practice in Boston, he founds Plymouth Hospital in 1908,* while operating a private practice in his home at 225 West Canton Street. Garland dies in 1952.
