Commonwealth Pier 5 is dedicated.

May 21, 1913

Architect: Frank Hodgdon. The three buildings are designed in the Beaux Arts style and located at today’s 200 Seaport Boulevard (then 164 Northern Avenue). Built by the state, the pier itself was completed in 1901 and is the largest on the East Coast at the time and meant to accommodate large ocean liners. The buildings accommodate ships, railroad, and vehicles. They are subsequently converted to a woolen warehouse. The buildings and pier are converted to a meeting and convention facility and renamed the World Trade Center Boston in 1986 [1990]. The property is currently called the Fidelity Investment Corporate Office and is being converted to a mixed-use facility that includes residential units. The entire complex is renovated in 2022.
