Christian Science Monitor reporter Jill Carroll is kidnapped in Iraq.

A freelance writer working for the newspaper, Carroll is kidnapped and her translator is killed by the insurgents in Baghdad. She is freed on March 30, 2006, and writes then writes a series of articles describing her experience in the Monitor that begins on August 14, 2006.
