Chinese health officials announce the outbreak of a respiratory illness in the city of Wuhan.

It is the first warning of what is subsequently as a coronavirus that results in the COVID-19 pandemic that goes on to kill more than five million people around the world and more than 700,000 in the U.S. by the end of 2021.
