Charlestown After Murder Program is established.

1992

Founded by Sandy King and others who had lost family members to violence, CHAMP’s mission is to stop violence by ending the so-called Code of Silence, which discourages local residents from testifying against local criminals. The organization is credited with encouraging a resident to testify in the trial of five men accused of drug trafficking, racketeering and conspiracy to commit murder which begins on November 16, 1994. As Sandy King says at the time, “Everybody knows what’s going on in the courtroom is true. They’re cheering silently, but they’re cheering.”
