Charles River Swim is held for the first time since 1955.

Some 100 swimmers follow a triangular course beginning and ending at the dock near the Hatch Shell. A subsequent event planned for September 9, 2006 is canceled due to the dangerous levels of microcystis, a toxic algae, the river.
