Callahan’s Men’s Shop opens.
1918
Operated by Edward Callahan, it is located at 294A Centre Street. Another store is opened at 155 Dudley Street in 1919. Customers to the family-owned and run stores include James Michael Curley, Maurice Tobin, and members of Boston professional sports teams. The Jamaica Plain store moves to 362C Centre Street in 1928 and to 730 Centre Street in 1978. Subsequently run by Paul Callahan, one of the sons of the founder, the store on Dudley Street closes in 1992 and the one on Centre Street on February 28, 1995.
