Brighton Item is first published.

1885

Founded by George Warren, who publishes it until his death in 1944, it is taken over by a rival paper, The Brighton Citizen (founded by G. Russell Phinney in 1935) in 1947. The newspaper’s original name is first eliminated from the masthead, then returned when it becomes the Citizen-Item in 1960. It resumes its original name in 1984.
