Bourne (Gertrude Beals) is born Boston.

May 21, 1868

Born at 8 Pemberton Square, Gertrude Beals is the daughter of lawyer Joshua Gardner and Edith (Simmons) Beals, grows up in the Back Bay, and studies art privately with Henry Rice and Henry Snell. After a tour of Europe, she returns to Boston and begins to show her work at the Boston Art Club in 1892. She moves with her husband, Frank Bourne, to 130 Mount Vernon Street in 1904, and dies in 1962.
