Boston’s Jewish population is estimated as 83,000.

It is the first decrease in the city’s Jewish population. Dorchester, Roxbury and Mattapan are home to approximately 70,000 of the city’s Jewish residents. That number decreases to 47,000 in 1960, to 16,000 in 1970, and only several hundred by 1980.
