Boston streets are laid out.
January 31, 1635
(Jan.) According to Steven Beaucher, the first streets laid out in Boston reflect its topography and follow former footpaths or “traces,” rather than, as is sometimes reported, cow paths. According to Annie Thwing, their purpose is so “that every man should have a sufficient way to his allotment of ground” in one of the three fields of the town.
