Boston Strangler murders begin.

June 14, 1962

Seamstress Anna Slesers, 55, is found murdered in her apartment at 79 Gainsborough Street (then 77 Gainsborough). She is the first of 13 women murdered in the area (eight in Boston) over the next 19 months. Their killer is subsequently dubbed the “Boston Strangler” by reporters Jean Cole and Loretta McLaughlin, who cover the case for the Boston Record-American. A Malden handyman subsequently confesses to the murders after being convicted of other crimes in 1967.* A number of books are written and movies made based on the murders.
