Boston Red Sox Ted Williams hits the longest home run in Fenway Park history.
June 9, 1946
The Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 11-6 in the second game of a double header, as Williams homers off pitcher Fred Hutchinson. The ball Williams hits reputedly travels 502 feet and crushes the straw hat of Joseph Boucher, who is sitting in Seat 21, Row 37, Section 42, prompting Boucher to ask Boston Globe sportswriter Harold Kaese, “How far away must one sit to be safe in this park?” Boucher’s seat is painted red to mark the event in 1984.
