Boston Record is first published.

September 3, 1884

The first tabloid paper in New England, it serves as the evening edition of the Boston Daily Advertiser. Joseph Chamberlin is the first editor. It becomes the city’s first tabloid in December 1920, is purchased by William Randolph Hearst in May 1921 (1917-BHL), and merges with the Advertiser on August 8, 1921, and becomes the Daily Record. It combines with the American to become the Record-American in 1961. The paper moves to One Winthrop Square in 1924 and ceases publication in 1972.
