Boston is the 20th most populous of any city in the U.S. For the first time in the city’s history, a majority of residents are Hispanic or people of color. 291,561 (49.5%) are white and 297,580 are non-white, including 140,305 (23.8%) who are African-American; 85,089 (14.4%) Hispanic; 44,280 (7.5%) Asian/Pacific Islander; 1,517 (0.3%) Native American; 8,215 (1.4%) other single race; and 18,174 (3.1%) are multi-racial. 151,836 (25.8%) are foreign born.
