Boston Poetry Slam is established in Cambridge.

Founded by Michael Brown and Patricia Smith, it is an outgrowth of the Stone Soup series and takes place initially at T.T. the Bear’s in Central Square, before relocating to the Cantab Lounge on October 16, 1992. Subsequently run Simone Beaubien, it is said to become the third longest-running poetry slam in the world. The slam’s last live performance is at the Cantab Lounge, which soon closes due to the corona virus pandemic, on March 11, 2020, but then reopens on December 2, 2021.
