Boston & New York Central Railroad service extends to New York City.

January 1, 1855

The line operates initially from downtown Boston to Putnam, Connecticut. It is extended to New York City in December 1858. The company becomes part of the Boston, Hartford, Erie, and then the New York & New England Railroad in 1863 and the New York & New England Railroad in 1873, and becomes the New England Railroad in 1895. It is leased to the New Haven Railroad in 1898 and merges with it to become the New York & New Haven Railroad on April 1, 1908.
