Boston Medical Society is established.

1780

It is founded by Nathaniel Williams and other local doctors at a meeting at the Green Dragon Tavern. Boston’s second medical society and a forerunner of the Massachusetts Medical Society, its purpose is to regulate the profession and establish a fee scale for those engaged in private practice, one that continues in use with only minor- adjustments into the twentieth century.
