Boston Massacre Marker is installed.

1887

It is located initially near today’s 60 State Street. Commissioned by the Bostonian Society, the ring of granite cobblestones with a star in the middle marks the location where British soldiers fired on a Boston mob in 1770. The marker is first moved to a nearby site to allow for construction of the East Boston subway in 1904, then onto a traffic island in front of today’s 25 – 29 State Street to allow for reconfiguration of streets as part of urban renewal in the 1960s. It is subsequently moved to its current location beneath the balcony of the Old State House.
