Boston Housing Court judge Paul Garrity utilizes a novel approach to punish a recalcitrant landlord.
July 3, 1974
Garrity orders Irwin Cantor, a Jamaica Plain landlord, to spend every night at the Deer Island House of Correction until he makes court-ordered repairs to his buildings at 322 and 336 Hyde Park Avenue. The Milton resident is forced to report to the facility every afternoon at 5 p.m. until the repairs are completed, which they are a few days later.
