Boston Harbor Police are established.

Its watch house is subsequently located at Lincoln Wharf. Formed after the crews are attacked with chloroform and robbed, the force consists of a captain and 10 men patrolling in row boats and equipped with Colt revolvers. The force initially uses a sailboat. It is replaced by a steam-powered boat, the Protector, in 1873.
