Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner is arrested by the FBI.

November 21, 2008

Turner is arrested in his office at City Hall. He is subsequently charged with accepting $1,000 for helping obtain a liquor license for a constituent, who turned out to be an FBI informant, a transaction that was videotaped in Turner’s district office on August 3, 2007. After being convicted of attempted extortion, Turner declares, “I’m an organizer. I was born to be an organizer. If they’re going to send me to jail, I’ll organize in jail.” Refusing to leave office, Turner is expelled from the City Council in December 2010.*
