Boston area average monthly rents exceed $2,000 for the first time in history.

According to Reis, Inc., the average rent was $2,010 in the fourth quarter of 2015. It is the fourth-highest metro average in the U.S., trailing only New York ($3,436), San Francisco ($2,491) and San Jose ($2,023).
