Bob Cousy Day is held.

In the last regular season game in Cousy’s last season, the Boston Celtics beat Syracuse 125-116 at Boston Garden. While thanking the sellout crowd during the ceremony in his honor, Cousy becomes overcome with emotion and pauses for quite some time, unable to continue. The silence is finally broken by leather-lung fan Joe Dillon of South Boston, who yells, “We love ya, Cooz!” A long standing ovations follows.
