Blackfriars Massacre occurs.
June 28, 1978
Five men are shot and killed in the basement-level bar at 105 Summer Street. The victims include bar owner Vincent Somonte, night manager and former Channel 7 reporter Jack Kelly, bartender Peter Meroth, and Freddy Delavaga and Charles Magarian. Police suspect the slayings are the result of misunderstanding over a drug deal. Two men are tried for the slayings, but acquitted in 1979.
