Benjamin Zander conducts Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at Symphony Hall.
February 24, 2023
Zander conducts the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra in a rendition of the symphony based on 40 years of studying long-ignored tempo marks based on the then-new metronome in the original score. According to Boston Globe correspondent Jeffrey Gantz, “Performing the Ninth the way Beethoven heard it in his head is like trying to catch lightning in a bottle. On Friday, Zander, the BP, and chorus just about did.”
