Bellflower Street Fire occurs.

The five-alarm fire begins at 26 Bellflower Street. Exacerbated by dry conditions and high winds, it spreads to both sides of the street, destroys 17 three-deckers, damages 11 more, and leaves 370 people homeless.. Some 70 fire companies are involved in fighting the blaze, which injures 31 firefighters and leaves 200 residents in need of medical treatment.
