Battle of Chelsea Creek is fought.

May 27, 1775

[5/26-DD; 5/28-BGL] As Colonial forces under Gen. John Stark attempt to clear livestock from Hog Island, they are fired upon by the British warship HMS Diana, under the command of Adm. Samuel Graves. Although described as the first naval battle in the Revolutionary War, and the first where Colonial troops from different states fight together, the British ship subsequently runs aground off Noddles Island. When Colonial reinforcements under Gen. Israel Putnam arrive, the British are forced to remove their cannons then burn the ship to keep it from falling into enemy hands.
