Bates (Joshua) School is built.

Architect: Arthur Vinal. Designed in the Queen Anne style and named for the Boston public school headmaster, it is located at 731 Harrison Avenue. The building is converted to artist residences in 1976 and the Bates Art Resource Center in the 1980s.
