American Research and Development Corporation is established.

The first venture capital firm in the U.S., it is founded by Harvard Business School professor Georges Doriot, MIT President Karl Compton, and Boston Federal Reserve Bank president Ralph Flanders. One of its most successful investments was in a start-up computer company, Digital Equipment.
