Althea Garrison becomes an at-large member of the Boston city Council.

A Dorchester resident, she had finished fifth in the previous election and assumes the seat vacated by Ayanna Pressley, who was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. The first known transgender member of the Boston City Council, Garrison had previously run for office more than 30 times, winning only once before, in 1992.
