The son of Nelson and Eleanor (Tweed) Aldrich, Nelson Aldrich graduates from Harvard College, works as an editor at the Paris Review and a reporter for the Boston Globe, where in 1992 he writes, “Boston is a grown-p city, perhaps the only one in the country, and to most Americans, certainly to me, grown-up is a cold, unpromising state of mind.” He moves to New York City, becomes a teacher, freelance, and author, often focusing on issues of wealth and class. Aldrich dies in North Stonington Connecticut on March 8, 2022.
