African-American leaders celebrate the 48th anniversary of Charles Sumner’s election to the U.S. Senate.

The event is held at Young’s Hotel. William Lewis, the principal speaker, uses the occasion to denounce Booker T. Washington’s Tuskegee program of concentrating on industrial education to promote civil rights.
