Adams (Charles Francis Jr.) House is built.

[1920-MLS] Architect: Peabody & Stearns. Built for the investor and railroad magnate and his wife, the red brick and brownstone building is located at 20 Gloucester Street (281 Commonwealth Avenue). The family lives here until 1896. The building is used by St. Phillip’s Preparatory School in 1940 and converted to offices in 1969. It is reputed to be the first building converted to condominiums in Boston in 1969.
